Carlos Alcaraz will miss the Australian Open 2023

Due to a leg injury sustained during training, Carlos Alcaraz will not compete in the Australian Open 2023. Carlos Alcaraz, the top-ranked male player in the world, has revealed that he would not compete in the Australian Open due to a leg muscle injury that he sustained during training.

The young man, who was only 19 years old when he won his first grand slam title at the US Open in September, was forced to withdraw from the season-ending ATP finals as well as the Davis Cup finals because of a ruptured abdominal muscle. Although Alcaraz had healed enough to start preseason training, a separate muscle issue occurred in his right leg.
The Spaniard posted a message on social media saying, “It’s time to deal with another blow.” During the preseason, when I was performing at my peak, I suffered an injury as a result of an accidental and unnatural movement that occurred in training.

Carlos Alcaraz Australian Open 2023

I had put in a lot of effort to prepare to the greatest level I could for Australia, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to compete in the Care A2+ Kooyong [warm-up event] or the Australian Open 2023. Even if it’s difficult, I have to stay positive, get better, and look to the future. See you in 2024 @australianopen.

After defeating Casper Ruud in the championship match of the United States Open in New York in 2022, Alcaraz made a meteoric rise up the rankings to claim the No. 1 spot, making him the youngest man to ever achieve this feat.

Because of his withdrawal, his fellow countryman Rafael Nadal, who is now the reigning champion, is likely to get the top seed in the competition. In Melbourne the previous year, Alcaraz competed as the No. 31 seed and was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in the third round.

In the semi-finals of the warm-up event held in Adelaide, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, two additional potential candidates for the title of Australian Open 2023, will square off against one another.

Djokovic defeated Denis Shapovalov in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) to get to the semifinals, and Medvedev defeated fellow Russian Karen Khachanov in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Medvedev was the runner-up in the finals in both 2021 and 2022.

I am pleased with both the way I am currently playing and how I am currently feeling out on the court. After his victory, Djokovic remarked, “I know that a grand slam is around the corner, but I really want to focus my attention here.”

Medvedev, it’s possible that I am at a loss for more forceful language just now. I am quite excited about it. There is no doubt that the semi-final will be an amazing one… The most difficult test either of us has faced to this point. I believe that this is the direction we want to head in before heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open 2023.

The American Sebastian Korda and the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka will compete in the other semi-final. Korda overcame the sixth seed, Jannik Sinner, by a score of 7-5 and 6-1, while Nishioka prevailed over the local hope Alexei Popyrin by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), and 6-2.

Ons Jabeur, the number one seed in the women’s competition, prevailed over Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine by scores of 7-6 (5) and 7-5. She will next compete against Linda Nosková, a qualifier from the Czech Republic who is only 18 years old and who defeated Victoria Azarenka by scores of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6. (6).

Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, defeated Markéta Vondrouová in two sets by scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Her next opponent is Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania.
